Bookkeeper secrets your bank statement has been keeping from you đ
Honestly, this is one of my favourite parts of my job, going through a new clientâs books and finding things they had no idea were even there.
Not because itâs bad news. Because fixing it puts real money back in their pocket.
Hereâs what I find almost every single time:
Subscriptions nobodyâs used in months. Duplicate charges that slipped right through. Bank fees that have just become background noise. Stripe and PayPal fees dumped into the wrong category. A personal expense or two buried in the business account. Payments that show up every month and nobody knows what theyâre even for.
None of it is your fault. Youâre running a business, you donât have time to comb through every line of your bank statement. Thatâs exactly what I do.
And more often than not, finding these things saves my clients more than they ever expected.
If youâre curious whatâs hiding in your books, comment BOOKS below and Iâll reach out. đ

Hiring a bookkeeper? Hereâs exactly what Iâd do first, and Iâm a bookkeeper saying this!
1. Get clear on what you actually need.
Catch-up bookkeeping? Monthly maintenance? GST filing? Knowing this before you reach out saves everyone time.
2. Ask if they specialize in small businesses.
Not all bookkeepers are built the same. You want someone who gets what itâs like to run a small business, not just someone who knows the software.
3. Check that theyâre certified.
Look for a CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper) designation. It matters more than most people realize.
4. Ask how they communicate.
Will they check in monthly? How do they send reports? Do they explain things in plain English or drown you in jargon? This oneâs big.
5. Make sure they know your software.
QuickBooks, Wave, Xero - whoever you hire should be fluent in whatever youâre using or want to use.
6. Ask what they need from you.
A good bookkeeper will tell you upfront what they need to do their job well. If they donât ask for anything, thatâs a red flag.
7. Donât just go with the cheapest option.
Your books are the foundation of your business. This is not the place to cut corners.
If youâre looking for someone who checks all of these boxes - my DMs are open. đ

Bookkeeping myths that are quietly hurting your business đ
Myth 1: âI only need a bookkeeper at tax time.ââ¨By then the damage is already done. Bookkeeping is a year-round thing.

Myth 3: âI can just do it myself in a spreadsheet.ââ¨You can, until you canât. And usually you find out at the worst possible time.
Myth 4: âMy accountant handles my bookkeeping.ââ¨Your accountant files your taxes. Your bookkeeper keeps your records clean all year. Very different jobs.
Myth 5: âShoebox receipts are fine.ââ¨They are not fine. They have never been fine. đ
Myth 6: "lâll catch up on my books when things slow down."âThings don't slow down. And now youâre 6 months behind.
Myth 7: "I can write off everything."â¨you cannot. And the CRA will find out.
Myth 8: "Clean books are just for big businesses."â¨

If you have ADHD and running a business feels chaotic, your books probably feel impossible đ
I want you to know that thatâs not a character flaw. Itâs actually just ADHD doing what ADHD does.
The truth is, working with a bookkeeper when you have ADHD can feel freeing, when itâs set up the right way.
No more guilt about the pile of receipts no more dreading taxis and no more pretending youâll get to it later.
Hereâs what actually works:
Drop folder system so thereâs zero organizing on your end
Short frequent check-in, instead of one big overwhelming meeting
A bookkeeper who communicates the way your brain needs
Automations that remove the decisions you keep avoiding
Permission to just be honest about where things are at
You donât need to be organized to hire a bookkeeper. Thatâs literally what weâre here for. đ
If this resonated with you comment âbooksâ, Iâd love to chat about what a system that actually works for you could look like!!
