Dollarama Garlic Powder Recall Issued Across Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall for certain containers of Heavenly Spices Garlic Powder (70 g) sold at Dollarama stores across Canada due to possible contamination with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

If you have this product:
Do not use it.

❗Canadian Forces Rescue 11 Minnesota Teens Trapped by Wildfires
As massive wildfires continue to burn across parts of Canada and northern Minnesota, one story is standing out for a different reason.
Eleven Minnesota teenagers and four YMCA staff members were safely rescued from Ontario's remote Wabakimi Provincial Park after rapidly changing wildfire conditions cut off their route home.
The rescue was carried out by the Royal Canadian Air Force in coordination with Ontario emergency officials. One group was evacuated by aircraft while another was flown out by helicopter after weather and fire conditions delayed rescue efforts for nearly two days.
Throughout the ordeal, the campers remained in contact using satellite communications, allowing emergency crews to track their location until it was safe to launch the evacuation. Officials say everyone was evaluated after the rescue and all were reported to be in good health, tired and ready to head home.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz publicly thanked Ontario Premier Doug Ford, the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian emergency responders for their quick action.
In moments like these, politics and borders fade into the background.
Wildfires do not stop at the border, and neither does the willingness of first responders to protect lives. Canadian crews have spent months battling historic fire seasons while also responding whenever people, regardless of nationality, find themselves in danger.

U.S. Republican Lawmakers Seek to Sanction Canada Over Wildfire Smoke

A group of Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives is calling on Canada to do more to prevent wildfire smoke from drifting across the border into the United States.

In a letter sent to Canada's ambassador, the lawmakers said residents in states such as Minnesota and Wisconsin have spent several summers dealing with hazardous air quality caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires. They argued that Canada's forest management practices need to improve and urged Canadian officials to take stronger action to reduce the impact of future wildfire seasons.

The letter has sparked criticism from wildfire experts and some political leaders on both sides of the border, who argue that the issue is far more complex than forest management alone. They point to prolonged drought, extreme heat and changing climate conditions as major factors contributing to increasingly severe wildfire seasons across Canada.

The exchange comes after another summer of widespread Canadian wildfires that sent smoke across large portions of Canada and the northern United States, triggering air quality alerts for millions of people.

Penny Boudreau, the Nova Scotia woman convicted of killing her 12-year-old daughter Karissa in 2008, has been granted another six months of day parole by the Parole Board of Canada.

Boudreau strangled Karissa and initially told police the girl had run away after an argument outside a grocery store in Bridgewater. Karissa’s body was found two weeks later along the LaHave River.

Boudreau later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 20 years. Court heard she wanted her daughter “out of the way” because she believed Karissa was interfering with a relationship with a boyfriend.

The latest extension was approved June 18. The board said her previous temporary absences from prison have been without incident, but noted she still struggles with interpersonal problem-solving, poor decision-making, insecurity, and fear of abandonment.

Boudreau is currently living at a community-based residential facility while on day parole. One of her conditions requires her to report any relationships with men to her parole supervisor. According to the board, she has not had another relationship since the boyfriend involved at the time of the murder.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating Christopher Watts, a 66 year old convicted s*x offender who is currently unlawfully at large.

According to the Service correctionnel du Canada, Watts was under federal supervision when he allegedly breached the conditions of his release. He was believed to be in the Montreal area when the violation occurred, but investigators say he could now be anywhere in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada.

Christopher Watts is described as:

🔹 66 years old
🔹 6 feet (1.83 m) tall
🔹 161 lbs (73 kg)
🔹 Brown hair and brown eyes

He was last known to be wearing:

▪️ Prescription glasses
▪️ Dark short sleeved shirt
▪️ Grey pants
▪️ Dark shoes

The Montreal Police Service's S*x Offender Monitoring Team is assisting Correctional Service Canada in the search.

Police urge anyone who sees Watts or knows where he may be to call 911 immediately. Do not approach him yourself.

💔 RCMP are investigating a fatal hit and run that claimed the life of a 33 year old woman in Esgenoôpetitj early Saturday morning.

Police say the woman was struck by a vehicle, and the driver left the scene. The suspect vehicle and driver have not yet been identified.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage from the area, to contact RCMP.

Our thoughts are with the woman's family, friends and community as they cope with this tragic loss.
