That’s what the conversation is for.

The appointment might be over. The work usually isn’t.

After the meeting comes the research, the bookkeeping, the follow-up, the forms, the problem solving, the checking and rechecking.

A lot of what I do for clients happens quietly behind this desk.

Sometimes it’s straightforward.

Sometimes one little question turns into an hour of digging until I’m satisfied I have the right answer.

A pretty big milestone for Tilly’s Balance Company this weekend.

Over the past two days, we put up and connected our new solar array — which means the office is now officially running off-grid without relying on the generator.

There’s something pretty satisfying about sitting at the desk doing bookkeeping, payroll and client work knowing the computers, printers, lights and everything else in the office are being powered by what’s sitting outside soaking up the New Brunswick sun.

Building this business has involved a lot more than accounting.

Sometimes it’s websites and paperwork.

Sometimes it’s building an office.

And apparently sometimes it’s putting up solar panels in the yard.

One more step toward building Tilly’s Balance Company exactly the way I envisioned it.

And yes — after the last two days, I’m pretty happy to see those panels finally producing power.
