Very concerning news.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Oak Wilt has been confirmed in Ontario!
Oak wilt is a disease caused by the fungus Bretziella fagacearum. Red oaks are particularly susceptible, resulting in tree death within a single season. Oak wilt is spread naturally through root grafts or beetles carrying fungal spores.
What you can do:
• Don't prune oak trees between April and August
• Don't move firewood
• Check oak trees for signs of oak wilt, which are:
° Dull green, brown or yellow leaves
° Cracks in the trunk
° White, grey or black fungus
° Early and sudden leaf drop
• Report suspected signs to the CFIA

Norway Maples doing what they do. Growing fast and furious with poor unions that are incredibly likely to fail in extreme weather.
If you have a healthy mature Norway Maple, following a regular pruning schedule (every 4-5 years) with proper pruning techniques can lower the risk of failure.
Bad pruning can be the cause of future failures
Don’t choose them when planting a new tree. They are an invasive species that damages local ecosystems.
Plant native trees that support ecosystem health.
