Bangladesh Bank’s New Decision! From now on, all foreign trade documents will go digital

On 1 July 2026, Bangladesh Bank issued FEPD-1 Circular No. 15, introducing a pilot framework for digital document processing in import and export trade. Here are the key highlights: 👇

- Electronic trade documents may now be processed under Letters of Credit (LCs) and Documentary Collections.

- Transactions will be conducted in accordance with URC, UCP, eURC, and eUCP rules.

- Electronic Transferable Records (ETRs) must ensure unique identification, control, and security.

- No specific platform or vendor is mandatory—the framework follows a technology-neutral approach.

- Authorized Dealers (ADs) may participate in pilot trade corridors with prior approval from Bangladesh Bank.

- Data encryption, authentication, time-stamping, and tamper-proof audit logs are mandatory requirements.

- Sensitive trade document data must not be stored in a centralized repository.

- The directives issued under FE Circular No. 01 dated 6 January 2026 will continue to remain in force.
