Some days, being self-employed is really hard. 🤍
When you run your own bookkeeping business, there’s no one sitting beside you ready to take over when life gets difficult.
There’s no backup bookkeeper waiting in the wings.
No one to say, “I’ve got your clients today — go and look after yourself.”
And lately, I’ve been reminded just how challenging that can be.
Personal struggles don’t make the BAS deadlines disappear.
Payroll still needs to be processed.
Emails still arrive.
Clients still need support.
And the work still needs to get done.
Behind the business is still just a person.
A person who sometimes has things happening in their personal life that clients may never know about. A person who can be worried, overwhelmed or exhausted — and still open the laptop, make the coffee and keep going.
I absolutely love what I do and I care enormously about my clients and their businesses.
But running a small business with no real backup has also taught me that I need to give myself the same understanding and grace that I would give anyone else going through a difficult time.
So if you’re self-employed and quietly juggling business with some pretty heavy things behind the scenes…

Some weeks seem to disappear before they’ve even begun…
Between client deadlines, payroll, BAS, emails, phone calls and everything else that comes with running a business, I’m constantly trying to fit a personal life into the spaces in between.
Some days I genuinely wish there were two of me.
One to give 100% to my clients.
And one to be fully present with my family, friends and the people I love.
The reality of being self-employed is that the lines between work and life often blur. But I’m learning that taking a moment to slow down isn’t falling behind—it’s what helps me keep showing up at my best. Today is my favourite day…it’s PILATES day 😊

There’s a person behind every reconciliation, BAS lodgement and payroll run.
Most days you’ll find me with a coffee beside my keyboard, juggling deadlines, answering client questions and making sure the numbers are exactly where they should be.
But when I shut the laptop, I’m also a wife, someone who loves camping and fishing, a cat mum, and someone who values time with family.
Owning a business isn’t always glamorous. There are long days, late nights and plenty of responsibility.
What keeps me going is knowing that the work I do genuinely makes life easier for my clients. Helping small business owners feel less stressed and more in control is why I still love what I do after 13 years.
Thank you to every client who has trusted me to be part of your journey. I never take that trust for granted.
