Don’t rush your tax return 🐢

We know it’s tempting to lodge quickly—especially when you’re expecting a refund. But when it comes to tax returns, fast doesn’t always mean finished.

By late July, the ATO has usually received most information from:

Employers
Banks and investment providers
Private health insurers
Government agencies
Managed funds and other third parties

Lodging before this information is available may mean missing income, using incomplete figures or needing to amend your return later. In fact, the ATO says more than 595,000 early-lodged returns were adjusted last tax time.

A refund delayed by a little patience is better than an ATO letter arriving with a plot twist. 😅

Before lodging, make sure your income statements are marked “Tax ready” and that all relevant records have been received.
